Reaching Inner-city Youth through Art Education

The OAEA has been awarded a grant from the Ohio Arts Council designed to improve outreach to art educators from diverse populations and those who teach in schools with diverse population.  A series of workshops will take place this school year in the six largest Ohio inner-city districts – Akron, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Columbus, Dayton and Toledo.  They will take place in art museum located in those cities.  The OAEA greatly appreciates the support of the OAC!.

The first Summer Symposium, held Wednesday, June 29, 2016 at Columbus College of Art and Design was a huge success.  The emphasis of summer symposium is not about the classroom but rather refreshing and enriching the artists soul.  Participants were involved in three 90 minute hands-on workshops of their chosing.  Ten OAEA Distinguished Fellows shared their talents in the nine different offerings.  Thanks to all the OAEA people who took a risk on this first venture!  We are already looking forward to next year for two days at Kent State University.
